New Jersey Metro Chapter Hosts Fundraising Pep Rally;
Announces 2016 Walk MS Ambassadors

March is MS Awareness Month and the National MS Society New Jersey Metro Chapter is celebrating with a Pep Rally on Sunday, March 6, 2016, at McLoones Boathouse in West Orange, NJ. With the hopes of raising awareness for all upcoming Walk MS, Bike MS, and MuckFest MS events, which begin in April, the NJ Metro Chapter will connect key executives, event ambassadors, and MS Society supporters together to showcase the MS Society and all the ways this community can get involved and help those effected by this incurable disease.

In addition to learning about fundraising opportunities, the pep rally will feature the new president of New Jersey Metro Chapter, Lisa Gallipoli, who joined the organization in January, and reveal the 2016 ambassadors of Walk MS, the Greengrass family, from Montclair, NJ. Program managers of Walk MS, Bike MS, and MuckFest MS will also speak to the specific events and how fundraising efforts can help the cause.

“Walk MS, Bike MS, and MuckFest MS are opportunities to come together for one common goal: a world free of MS, and our hope is that this pep rally will fuel the fundraising fire,” said Lisa Gallipoli, National MS Society NJ Metro Chapter President. “Our passionate participants help raise awareness and funds to change the lives of those affected by MS. We are excited to celebrate the continued efforts of all our fundraisers and highlight our 2016 Walk MS ambassadors, the Greengrass family, who have proven to be amazing leaders in this fight.”

The National MS Society New Jersey Metro Chapter brings together a community of passionate individuals to connect and raise funds to change the world for everyone affected by MS. Last year, Walk MS raised about $1.6 million and had about 10,000 participate and volunteer. This year the goal is $1.8. The NJ Metro Chapter offers 11 walk locations across northern and central NJ. Participants can choose from park like settings, enjoy the NYC skyline view or walk along the NJ boardwalk.

“Walk MS has become a positive and fun focal point our whole family can rally around, since my husband’s diagnosis in 2007,” said Carla Greengrass. “Starting Team Greengrass made us realize participating as a family and as a community can turn one of the darkest moments in our lives into an empowering and inspiring experience. We are so incredibly honored to be this year’s Walk MS Ambassadors.” Since 2008, Team Greengrass has raised an excess of $213,000 through Walk MS, Bike MS and MuckFest, helping to support and further the incredible work being done by the Society.

About Multiple Sclerosis
Multiple sclerosis, an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system, interrupts the flow of information within the brain, and between the brain and body. Symptoms range from numbness and tingling to blindness and paralysis. The progress, severity and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot yet be predicted, but advances in research and treatment are moving us closer to a world free of MS. Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, with at least two to three times more women than men being diagnosed with the disease. MS affects more than 2.3 million people worldwide.
